Welcome to Elderfield Townsfolk, Friendship & Marriage Guide

Meet the townsfolk of Welcome to Elderfield: daily schedules, gifts, tasks, friendship, romance, and marriage — plus Hans, the giant skull farmer.

The people of Welcome to Elderfield are odd — the official description says so itself — and building a life among them is half the game. This guide covers what is confirmed about townsfolk, friendship, romance, and marriage.

A town full of schedules

The Steam feature list promises townsfolk who "live on their own varied schedules." Like the best life sims, that means:

  • Different locals appear in different places at different times of day.
  • Learning routines is part of learning the town.
  • Some encounters — and some secrets — only surface if you are in the right place at the right hour.

Friendship: gifts and tasks

Two confirmed mechanics drive relationships:

  1. Give gifts — present items to locals to grow your bond.
  2. Complete tasks — helping townsfolk with their requests deepens friendship.

The official page frames the payoff plainly: "befriend the odd townsfolk (or even marry one!)." Romance is not a separate system bolted on — it grows out of the same gift-and-task friendship loop.

Marriage

Yes, you can marry one of the townsfolk. Kwalee's launch announcement lists "befriend or romance the locals" among the game's pillars, and demo coverage of the full game's plans mentions romance dynamics among the strange characters of Elderfield. Specific marriage candidates, requirements, and wedding details are not documented in official pre-launch material — we will verify and document them after launch.

Hans: the farmer who hired circumstance

The most distinctive resident confirmed so far is not a romance prospect but your employer of sorts. Old Hans is a giant skull who never stopped growing until he got stuck and could no longer do his chores. The farm you run is his. Demo impressions describe meeting him as the moment you "become a farmer," and note that his appearance is the least of your worries in Elderfield.

Customization and home life

Relationships are only part of settling in. You can also:

  • Customize your character — shape your own look.
  • Customize and decorate your home — the full game promises furniture shops among its planned expansions.

What we will verify after launch

Marriage candidates, gift preferences, schedule tables, and heart-event details all require post-launch play. This page will grow into a full townsfolk directory once the game releases on September 10, 2026.
